Philippians 4:13 Project

The only requirement for my darkroom final was to have a cohesive set of images. My inspiration was found in the heart of my community, Waco, TX. To help people reflect on who they are, I asked my participants to write down their favorite thing about themselves. I wanted people to see themselves in a positive light and be aware of how unique, valuable, and worthwhile they truly are. At our core, regardless of age, race, background, we are all part of the same creation, and are capable of so much more than we can even imagine.

I encourage those reading to ask yourself what your favorite thing is about yourself. I hope it reminds you of how AWESOME you are and brings a smile to your face.

*A special thanks to those who were willing to participate and take time out of their day (ALL a pleasure to meet) and another special thanks to my good friend Tristen Coffee for wandering Waco with me and being my moral support.

*to be on the safe side I photographed with both digital and film, yay technology; about half of these images are film and half digital

James is a construction worker  that was working on  a site outside of my residence building. When I asked him what his favorite thing was about himself he laughed and said, "Oh, I'll just put what my wife always tells me."

Turner is a soon to be Junior at Baylor University and one of my good friends. I ran into him at Common Grounds (a local coffee shop in Waco) and he kindly agreed to be part of this project. Kate and Emily, also friends of mine and Baylor students, were also wonderful participants for this image.

Danea is a ball of sunshine. She was passing out flyers promoting Museum of Horrors Haunted House and before I even approached her, we were both dancing to the live music and she came and embraced me in a hug! Danea was so joyful and willing to participate!

I met 3 year old Emma's family at Torchy's Tacos. Her sweet mom and dad, Shannon and Michael, were on their way to take Emma and their new baby to the suspension bridge for some family time and were so kind to take time out of their night!

The moment I started talking with Julie and her family, I couldn't help but smile, their joy was contagious. Julie was so enthusiastic and melted my heart.

When I was talking with Alexis, Sandra, Samantha, and Breanna, I asked them to pick the favorite thing about their friendship. They immediately started giggling and brainstorming. When they came to a conclusion, one girl remarked, "We can't say that, it's for a project!" I laughed and said there are no boundaries and to have fun with it! LOVE that they brought out their silly side.

Tauya is another friend of mine who attends Baylor. Tauya and his friend both wore super hero onesies on one of the days of finals, claiming to give them extra testing powers, and let's face it, I think it gave an extra boost of happiness to anyone who witnessed these heroes!

Brad lives in Waco and is currently homeless. Brad shared with me some of his struggles and was at first hesitant to participate, but at the last second graciously decided to give us his time. If you feel compelled, I would love for y'all to consider donating to Mission Waco, a wonderful organization that reaches out to the Waco community: http://missionwaco.org/donate/

Everyone in Waco seems to know Terry. Terry is a friend to everyone he meets and his faith is inspiring. Terry, Tristen, and I sat down at the Waco Farmer's Market and we had the honor of hearing Terry's beautiful testimony.
